Our Sadhu boards have received a patent.

Our Sadhu boards have received a patent.

One summer evening, I once again visited the yoga studio to talk with G. When I entered, our mutual friend was with G, and they were discussing something about the Sadhu board. G spoke about his desire to pass electrical impulses from a muscle stimulator through the nails. This enhancement to the ordinary Sadhu board allowed him to experience more emotions and delve deeper into meditation during nail-standing practice.

The first conceptual model, handcrafted by G, looked quite unusual. Using thin copper wire, he intertwined almost every one of the several hundred nails on the board with each other. G connected an electrode from the electrical stimulator to the free end of the wire. The unique and pleasant sensation of pulsing current on the soles during practice seemed like an intriguing idea to me. I eagerly joined the discussion with an engineering education and more than ten years of experience in designing and manufacturing various interesting things.

Ultimately, the design solutions I proposed turned out to be more promising than all the previous ones, and I was entrusted to conduct some research. A month later, we were already testing several different prototypes. Settling on the most successful one, the idea of protecting our design with intellectual property rights arose.

Intellectual property rights would allow us to freely use the chosen design solution without fear that someone else might patent it instead and then officially prohibit us from using it. This practice is often a reality of our lives, especially when it comes to material gain and commerce. So, after a short search for an organization knowledgeable in patenting, we promptly sought their help. The process itself turned out to be not too complicated but required specialized knowledge and terminology mastery to correctly draft our model's description. You can verify this by reading the descriptive part of the patent, which is available in open access on the UKRPATENT website https://sis.nipo.gov.ua, "Set of Massage Devices," Ukrainian utility model patent No. 156032 dated 06.06.2024, with priority from 17.11.2023 under application No. u 2023 05524. Using this data, you need to fill in certain fields in the search section on the site. The utility model belongs to physiotherapeutic devices for massage, made in the form of needle massagers designed for external physiotherapeutic effects on human body organs (including the soles of the feet) with elements of reflex influence - needles/spikes.

In simple terms, the design solution can be described as follows: Nails (part 2) are inserted into a base with holes (part 1 in the drawing). A metal plate (part 3) is placed over the nail heads, which is specially connected to magnets that are also inserted into the base. Thus, all the nails form a single electrical circuit. When an electrode of the electrical stimulator is connected to the magnet, electrical impulses are transmitted through the nails to the feet.

I hope this design will serve many enthusiasts of the advanced nail-standing practice.

Project Engineer, Dmytro.
